When Nike debuted the Shox system in the year 2000 it felt like the future was here.

The idea popped into the mind of Bruce Kilgore—the man behind the Air Force 1—all the way back in 1984. He observed that indoor track sprinters appeared to bounce after hitting the ground through their stride. For 16 years Nike experimented with the concept of a spring system but it wasn't until the new millennium that they released the first Shox shoe.

Although released initially aimed at runners, when Team USA's Vince Carter dunked over French 7'2" center Frédéric Weis in his signature Shox BB4 the tech took centre stage.

Shox tech started as just a heel cushioning but much like Air, a full-length version was always going to come. The Shox TL brought the quirky suspension system to the whole midsole, incorporating multiple points of contact for a responsive feel. Whilst time would see Shox eventually phased-out by Nike, the insane looks of the model looms large in the minds of those who remember them and social media moodboard admins looking to one-up each other.

Finished in a monochrome palette, the Women's Shox TL gives everyone a chance to re-live this unique period in Nike history and—just for one moment—walk in the shoes of Jerry Seinfeld.
