The Story

Hand-made to the nth degree, each of the Story mfg. Brew Hat is knit and dyed by hand. The chunky crochet knit is expertly crafted so that you can look fly whilst keeping the sun at-bay.

NATURAL INDIGO: Not all indigo is the same and Story mfg. uses the best, most authentic version. Story's dyehouses use a natural form which replaces chemicals with fermented dye—a traditional method used for thousands of years.

KADUKA: Found across most of India, the Myrobalan plant grows in abundance at in the foothills of the Himalayas. The versatile dye creates a variety of hues from brownish to bright yellow.

PALPATTAI: Jackfruit dyeing—a technique almost lost to time—was saved by one of the dyehouses Story mfg. works with after years of researching a rumour. Jackfruit waste wood is shred, sun-dried and boiled into a tea for dyeing in a process which takes 4-10 days depending on the tone of colour required.

SEVILOKODI: Rubia Cordifolia is a flowering plant in the same family as coffee which has been cultivated for dye since antiquity in Asia and the Middle East.

IRON: Traditionally used as a way to darken dyes, Story mfg. use iron to create their olive and black colours when paired with other natural dyes.

→ NOTE: Due to the unique dying process and handmade nature of Story mfg. no two pieces look exactly the same. Variations in colour and pattern are a design feature.

  • Organic cotton yarn
  • Hand crocheted construction
  • Dyed w/ Iron, Palpattai, Sevilokodi, Kaduka & Natural Indigo
